There are many different styles of filigree, of which, Pamela is concentrating on the Russian open backed technique, which has been handed down through generations. Also, she is designing a Norwegian style filigree line, based on their traditional costume accessory which is part of their National dress. The filler wires are twisted, and milled, so the frame-work can support the delicate filler wires. Once the piece has been constructed, then using vegetable compounds, the frame is smoothed and polished. Depletion gilding of the frame will keep it bright and shiny, while the filler wires should remain white. This is a typical filigree finish. Applications can vary, for example, using sieved powders, wet packing, stencilling and painting.. Pamela uses a kiln to melt the glass, although a torch could also be used. Average temperatures range from 750 degrees C to 950 degrees C, and can take only minutes to fuse the enamel to the metal, for the acquired effect you would like to achieve. Other projects can be, Cloisonné, Pique-a-Jour, and Champlevé to name a few.
